Hotel occupancy in Nerja, Torrox and Frigiliana exceeds expectations for 2024

The Costa del Sol is a preferred destination for travelers. The Association of Hotel Entrepreneurs of the Costa del Sol has closed hotel occupancy at almost 60% for the month of January. an increase of 6% more compared to the month of January last year.

It is worth highlighting the large presence of international tourists in January, favoring occupation and temporality. It is now common that in the winter months the occupation corresponds to international tourists who decide to travel to the Costa del Sol to spend the cold months in their country in a warmer place. International visitors in winter account for 75% of occupancy and only 25% refers to national tourists (the majority of them being tourists from nearby provinces).

The challenge for Torrox, Nerja and Frigiliana is to exceed these figures in the coming years.

  • Frigiliana 65%
  • Torrox 65%

And as a curious fact, the Gross impact per hosted customer was €110. Increasing spending per hosted customer by €10.

Tourist forecasts for the coming months

From Aehcos, they expect an improvement for the month of February with an estimated occupancy of 69%. February is a month with more festivals and events in the towns of the province. Valentine’s weekend is a good demand for hotel occupancy and restaurant reservations. And the Carnival festivities also lead to the occupation of many towns in the province. The Carnivals of Nerja, Frigiliana and Torrox are one of the great attractions of the month of February.

Easter Week will be the turning point to assess hotel occupancy before summer 2024.

Hotel occupancy is expected to rebound to 72% in March and peak at Easter throughout the province. Holy Week is one of the biggest draws for national tourism in Axarquia.
